#Day7 Curriculum

Curriculum in Philippines for 9th Grade

One of the hardest things I have to do is that I have to teach chemistry. Basically, chemistry is part of science, and I'm crazy about science. However, since graduating from high school I have decided to pursue only one field, just physics.

Previously, I had told CT and my SI that my majors is physics, not science (because, on my campus the faculty of science and the faculty of physics were different). However, my CT and SI have never stopped encouraging me to teach chemistry. Because of them, I'm confident to give myself a challenge. “Can I do it? Yes, I can.”

Fortunately, my basic knowledge in chemistry wasn't too bad, coupled with the basic concepts of physics, it made me easier to explain chemical concepts. Because, in my opinion, physics is the fundamental of science. If we do not understand the fundamental of a science, it will be difficult for us to understand other sciences.

I was required to teach Chemistry at least 10 times in grade 9, or rather grade 3 in Junior High School. At first I already knew the topic of the discussion that I was going to submit, so it me easier to prepare my strategies and techniques.

However, there is one interesting thing that made me make comparisons with the curriculum system in Indonesia. In ten topics that I have to teach some of them is Periodic Tables, Periodic Trends in Atomic Properties, Ionic Compound, Covalent Compound, Metallic Bonding, and Carbon Compound.

Next I show a glimpse of the curriculum or syllabus in Philippines.

If in Indonesia, the topics addressed to 9th grade children are reproductive systems in humans, animals and plants; Population Development and Environmental Impacts; Atomic, Ion and Molecular Definition; Static Electricity, Magnetic, Electromagnetic Induction; Human Heredity; Environmentally Technology Products; Biotechnology and Food Production.

So different, right?

Let's discuss together about the differences in curriculum of these countries in the comments column below.
